Remote Sensing is the practice of measuring things from a distance. Radar, Lidar, Sonar and Hyperspectrometry instruments are used to take measurements of light reflectance, temperature, structure and other properties of a distant material. These instruments are typically airborne or spaceborne which allow an amazing access to global data. Google Earth Engine is a server based platform that helps aggregate and display satellite data, and hosts an impressive collection of data from space missions like LANDSAT, MODIS, and GEDI. It uses a javascript API that allows users to write scripts that will configure maps and perform analysis.
I made a couple scripts to look into the Glacial Extent of the Patagonian Ice Fields, which have been changing quickly in the last 10 years.
